Physical therapy is a great first-time treatment for most muscle and joint problems. Clinically proven to reduce pain and dysfunction, physical therapy also saves time and money. Depending on the particular needs of a patient, physical therapists may also ‘mobilize’ or ‘manipulate’ a join (that is, perform certain types of movements at the end of your range of motion) or perform soft tissue techniques to muscles to promote proper movement and function.

Your first visit, your physical therapist will discuss your specific situation and build a plan tailored to help you strengthen and heal your body. Your first session will have three components: assessment, examination and diagnosis. Your treatment plan will be discussed and may involve hands-on joint and soft tissue massage and mobilization.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Stick with shorts, or at least loose exercise pants that can comfortable expose your lower leg. Choose exercise-appropriate sneakers that comfortably support and cushion your feet.
Physical therapy sessions typically last 30 – 60 minutes each, from one to many times a week depending on your treatment plan. As you make progress, your visits may change in length and frequency. You’ll also learn techniques to help continue your healing.
Most patients will see their physical therapist for several visits. The treatment visit can vary between 6 to 12 visits, which should be enough to cover most diagnoses. But, even one to two visits can get people going in the right way.
Not only can physical therapy prevent injuries, it may prevent future surgery. By recognizing the areas of muscular or skeletal weakness, a physical therapist can analyze how likely it is that a patient will suffer injury, and create an exercise regimen that targets and strengthens weak muscle groups and joints, thus preventing future injuries in these areas.
At Marque Physical Therapy, we treat each patient as an individual throughout their experience with us. We work closely with your provider and our Marque family of physicians to see that we improve our patient’s quality of life as quickly as possible. In addition to therapy, we provide each patient with exercises and activities to do at home to ensure a speedy recovery and ti prevent future injuries. We are passionate about our patients recovery and will do our best to meet your therapy goals. We look forward to working with you in the future.
Physical therapy shouldn’t hurt, and it will be safe. But because you’ll use parts of your body that are injured or have chronic pain, physical therapy can be challenging, even hard. Most people might be sore or tender after a physical therapy session so remember to drink plenty of water after a session to process any toxins that have been released into your bloodstream.
