Under eye bags appear as mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes. This is common with aging and occurs when the muscles supporting the eyelid become weak. This allows fluid or fat cells to move into the lower eyelid. Lifestyle choices such as alcohol or tobacco use can also be a cause. Under eye bags are typically a cosmetic concern and not a sign of a serious health condition.

How to Get Rid of Eye Bags:

  1. ADJUST YOUR SLEEP POSITION

Sleep on your back with an extra pillow under your head instead of laying on your side or stomach. Sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated will prevent fluids from gathering around the eyes during sleep.

  1. MANAGE ALLERGIES

Avoid any allergens when possible. Allergies cause puffy eyes so make sure to take over the counter allergy medications when needed.

  1. ALWAYS REMOVE EYE MAKE-UP BEFORE BED

You are tired and just want to hop in bed. Removing your makeup is not only healthy for your skin, but will prevent that unwanted puffiness.

  1. KEEP SKIN MOISTURIZED

Dry skin = eye bags.

  1. PROTECT EYES FROM UV RAYS

Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and hats when in direct sunlight. Too much sun can create wrinkles and cause eyes to sag.

  1. DECREASE SALT INTAKE

Water finds its way to areas of the body with higher levels of sodium. Under the eyes is a prime area for this.

  1. DECREASE ALCOHOL INTAKE

Alcohol consumption pulls water out of the skin. When this happens to the sensitive area around your eyes, the skin is likely to sink into a pouch and create eye bags.

  1. DO NOT SMOKEeye bags

Smoking dries and weakens the skin.

  1. APPLY COLD COMPRESS ON EYES

Cold temperatures restrict blood vessels which can result in reduced swelling. Use items such as: cucumbers, chilled spoons, or tea bags.

  1. USE COVER UP

Make sure concealer matches skin tone. Lightly pat on make-up instead of rubbing it in.
